POINT MUAY THAI (PMT)

NO KNOCKOUTS, NO INJURIES

These events are designed to grow and develop Muay Thai Technique without the risk of injury.

Therefore,

ANY STRIKE MAKING FULL CONTACT OR EVEN THE "PERCEPTION OR APPEARANCE" OF A FULL CONTACT STRIKE WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF THE FIGHTER!

Fighters must win by points; similar to a full round, full contact fight, the judges will score each fighter at the end of the bout.

 GENERAL RULES 

​​

​​

  • There are no Knockouts and, or Technical Knockouts.

  • If a fighter quits, ( for example due to exhaustion) this will give a win to his or her opponent by DEFAULT.

  • Any Knockout will result in Disqualification of the striker.

  • There are some exceptions to a person stopping or faking a knockout.

  • This circumstance shall be determined by the Official IKF/PMT Ring Referee or the IKF/PMT Ringside Representative.

  • Together, they will determine the reason for the stoppage and designate the winner.

  • HAND & FOOT STRIKES to the HEAD - SEMI CONTACT ONLY!!!

  • The Official IKF/PMT Ring Referee or the IKF/PMT Ringside Representative may be penalized by points or disqualify the striker.

  • No kicks or punches in the back spine area, groin, or knee joints.

  • Faking and, or over-exaggerating a blow will be closely monitored.

  • ​

BANNED TECHNIQUES

  • NO KNEES TO HEAD

  • NO PULLING OPPONENTS HEAD DOWN IN CLINCH (can result in a knee to head)

  • NO DUCK OUT OF CLINCH (can result in a knee to head)

  • NO ELBOWS

  • NO AXE KICKS

  • NO LEG TEEPS (can cause knee hyperextension)

  • NO “SAENCHAI” CARTWHEEL KICK

  • NO JAMMING (catching kick and driving opponent backward)

  • NO PUSHING (unless technical setup, emotional push = disqualification)

  • NO HEEL TRIPPING (only trips/sweeps using the front of foot/leg are allowed in Muay Thai)

  • NO HIP THROWS

  • NO TAKEDOWNS (shooting for legs)

     

BOUT LENGTHS

  • Bouts are generally 2 rounds with 3rd round reserved for ties or experienced fighters and/or title bouts (the 3rd round has the highest risk of injury)

  • Rounds are 2 minutes for adults, and 90 seconds for youngsters. The break between rounds is 1 min.

EQUIPMENT 

​​

​​

  • MANDATORY Safety Equipment Required for ALL IKF/PMT

    • Mouth Piece.

    • Headgear

      • Headgear with a full jaw bar is allowed in the IKF PMT for ALL AGES.

      • Headgear with full face Faceguard/cages are allowed in the PMT for ALL AGES.

    • Groin Cup.

    • Shin Guards.

    • Shorts are Mandatory, NO LONG PANTS.

  • GLOVES

    • All fighters must wear IKF PMT APPROVED boxing gloves.

    • Each Fighter in ALL Bouts and ALL Divisions shall have the SAME Glove size as their opponent.

    • JUNIOR DIVISION GLOVES ARE BASED ON WEIGHT - NOT AGE​

      • Minimum of 12 Ounce For JUNIOR Divisions between age 8 and 11 Years Old.

        • Juniors above 120lbs must wear 16oz, uner 120lbs will be 12oz.

      • Minimum of 16 Ounce gloves for all fighters age 18 and over - ADULT Divisions.

  • Hand Wraps

    • Standard hand-wraps should be worn by all competitors.

Breast and Chest Protectors, Face Guard Protectors

  • Are optional for adults but are recommended. If one fighter chooses not to wear a protector, it will have no bearing on the scoring.

  • The winner will still be determined by who hits ( IN A CONTROLLED SEMI CONTACT WAY ) the point areas most effectively.

JUDGING 

​​

  • Three judges will sit at ringside and score each bout based on a 10 point must system just like in regular boxing or kickboxing. The winner gets 10, the loser gets 9 or less if point deductions occur.

  • Bouts will be judged on who lands the most strikes/points in the designated areas based on the judge's discretion.

  • Bouts are scored by CLEAN shots landed

  • Effective Clinching is scored highly

    • Pummeling and gaining positioning, kneeing target areas earn points

    • Ducking out of clinch is detrimental to score (can result in a knee to head)

    • Blocking knees with forearms is detrimental to score

    • Hip tossing is detrimental to score

    • Heal tripping is detrimental to score

    • Kneeing opponent in the groin is detrimental to score

  • If rounds 1 & 2 are won by a fighter the win will go to him/her.

  • It will not be judged on whom the crowd is chanting for on one's "show boating" etc.

  • If judges rule that a participant is intentionally trying to hurt someone or hurts someone resulting from a full-contact blow that participant will be disqualified with no refund. (this will be at judges discretion majority rules).

  • Full protective gear is Mandatory - approved headgear, mouthpiece, groin protectors, shin guards, handwraps, and foot pads must be worn.

  • All strikes must be in designated striking areas. These are front head area, front body area, inside and outside of the thigh. No groin strikes. If there is a draw in a match there will be an extra round to determine a winner.

  • If a leg kick is thrown and it is blocked with the shin portion of the leg...it is not a point.

  • If a knee is thrown to the body but is blocked it is not a point. All techniques must land in the designated striking area to be counted as a point.

  • Point Deduction or Possible Disqualifications

    • Too Much Contact- Reminder all techniques must be controlled with semi-contact only.

    • Use of profanity and un-professionalism.
